Verify cable is ok with another device and/or try different USB cable. If not able to communicate, try different USB port on your PC. USB drivers are specific to the USB port. Usually, following the same type of process as shown below can identify the misbehaving driver and you can delete it or at least get the correct version for your device selected. The USB drivers can also get replaced by incompatible versions when software is installed that can access the USB ports. Windows USB port issues are not uncommon and can cause problems with any USB devices attached to your PC. Windows 7 can have the same issue which can happen after a Windows update. The device manager steps below are for Windows 10.
